i caved...! if y'all really knew me...
you'd know I had never imagined myself having a boy. All of my real life friends know this, but it feels funny to admit it here. Maybe because I'm comfortable with girl stuff, and not at all with boy stuff. I secretly felt like the boy wouldn't connect with me because I don't understand and have little patience for sports / boy stuff. (silly, but true). I re-read this recently, and realized it truly does not matter. I'm already crazy in love with him.
you'd know that I see my mom most days, and at the very least talk to her a couple times throughout the day.
you'd know I love red hair.
you'd know that I'm not usually made up. I wear make up just a couple times a week.
you'd know that I am often moved to tears. and I am the worlds ugliest crier.
you'd know that I cannot stand it when people jokingly say something about being skinny. it is not nice. especially when you haven't missed a meal.
you'd know that I do not like being home alone at night. every noise I hear is someone comin' to get me.
you'd know that I'm a prude. Cue the blush.
you'd know that I reach out, that most of the time my compassion runs deep.
you'd know that I do not like to do my hair.
you'd know it is a rare day when I don't have an avocado on something, or just plain with s&p.
you'd know that I've been close to passing out from someone telling me their birth story. I'm still coming to terms with what I'll have to do come January. (
... Did you do one of these? I'd love to read it - link yours in the comments below please.
What's something I wouldn't know just from your blog?

Love reading these posts from so many bloggers! And I can definitely relate with a few of these! I always tell my friends that they need to find me a guy with red hair; I think it's the cutest!
ReplyDeleteAlso loving the posts to/about your little Tuck! You're going to be a great momma to that little boy!
Something you wouldn't know from my blog: I cried after I saw the first "real birth" video of my life. I cried. Not because it was beautiful, or amazing, but because I was so afraid. lol:) That was a couple months ago! I am doing better with it now. I've been reading more and went to a birthing class-that really helped a lot. So I totally understand being worried about it:) We can do it!
ReplyDeleteLove this post - I'll have to think about what I'm comfortable sharing and do one myself! Love it. (And yes birth stories can be scary. Just take care of yourself and your little one, have someone you trust beside you, and you'll be fine.)
ReplyDeleteAll the reasons I love you! <3
ReplyDeleteYes, I never pictured myself with a boy first (I have two now)! I'm a girly girl, but little boys oh my. They just melt your heart in a way you never knew was possible. You'll see what I mean when he arrives. Sons are so special :)
ReplyDeleteWe're having a little boy in October and I was totally freaked out at first! I grew up with one sister and boys just seem so foreign to me... BUT the more I get used to the idea, the more I love it! And also, the more I'm thinking I'd be totally fine with only having boys!
ReplyDeletejust did mine today too :) the idea of boys freak me out...but the idea of a tiny adam is too cute to handle. i bet you'll feel the same about a miniature jb come january!
ReplyDeleteeeps! I loved that I knew so many of these :) I guess that means I kinda really know you! miss you friend and think of you all the time!! hope you and little Tuck are doing well this week!
ReplyDeleteI always knew I'd win you over with my red hair ;)
ReplyDeleteI already left you a comment on formspring but just wanted to reiterate here - I felt the same way about having a boy. I come from a family of 3 girls and I'm not at all into sports. My husband is a sports fanatic (sports are literally his job, too). When we found out we were having a boy, I was kind of sad. I think I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to compete with the relationship my son would have with my husband. But as I said before, now? I wouldn't have it any other way - I am head over heels for my boy! A mother daughter relationship is, of course, so special. But a mother son relationship is at least equally special, maybe more ;) It sounds like you've already made the turnaround, but just wait until he gets here...you'll be so over the moon in love! And you know what? When he's a year and a half like mine, I'm sure you'll find yourself all of a sudden comfortable with all the "boy stuff" - because who wouldn't throw a ball back and forth for 20 minutes when it brings on such joy from their sweet baby boy! Much love to you and baby Tuck!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness sarah! we are similar- i cannot be home at night without FEARING legitimately for my life.. bahahahaha
ReplyDeleteand i, too, hardly ever wear make up or do my hair.. why bother when we are just so awesomely gorgeous natural, right?
and you are going to be such a wonderful mom (:
oh, and here is my post!!! ii was kind of totally honest (maybe TOO honest) with this post...
ReplyDeletehttp://ashleymcglass.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-you-really-knew-me.html
I'm a bit confused. Has someone actually told you that YOU are overweight? You are so tiny, and beautiful on the inside and out ;). Or, was it comments that you are too skinny?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering!
Girl, I wish we could grap a cup of coffee together. Seriously, you make me smile. And I think I might have to go one of these on my blog...so fun!
ReplyDeleteLove this post, Sarah! Thanks for sharing. You're going to be a wonderful momma to baby boy!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the tears. I don't know what it is, but as I've gotten older more and more things move me to tears. I'm hoping its maturity and being able to see the beautiful world we live in rather than super early menopause!
xoxo ~L
I love your blog, and have been a reader since you and JB lived abroad! I am so excited to follow your adventures with Baby Tuck. You're an adorable mama-to-be already! I DID do one of these posts, and you can read all about it here!

love for you to check it out. congrats on your sweet baby boy to come!
I too have a love affair with avocados :) Always love learning more about you Sarah! I caved as well...http://goo.gl/qj5LI

ReplyDeleteI love these posts! Such a fun way to figure out your quirks & learn a few about others. Funny you love red hair. I am a redhead, & finally learning to embrace it. You always want what you don't have, right? Here's my post: http://christawaldrop.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post!
ReplyDeletewww.magshop.us
I really think we would be great friends in real life!
ReplyDeleteMy love for avocados is a new one, but it's a big one. I had them for breakfast and lunch yesterday! Oops! haha :)
You are going to be an amazing mom!
I may have a go at this, it was lovely to read yours! x
ReplyDeleteLove reading all of these across the blog world! You are darling best of luck with the birth of your sweet baby boy in January, you'll be amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou probably wouldn't know that I'm terribly insecure and spend two hours a day exercising to try to lose weight.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Loved reading these! Might have to post one of my own now!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the skinny thing. I've had really backhanded comments about it my whole life, and it's not nice at all. Glad you said it. :)
I also have been a long time reader of your blog so now being able to follow along on your baby journey is so great. It sounds like you are embracing this amazing journey fully and you will honestly be the sweetest mommy ever.
ReplyDeleteI never realized how important it is being a mom until you either become one or you lose one. I lost my mom at the age of 11, and my daughter Elle Grace is named after my mom, Elaine. I love how their names have the same meaning. She is def our miracle baby as it was not an easy road for us.
I have three boys and it truly comes naturally! I really love the picture above. Definitely needs to be framed! Oh and I too have an avacodo a day...obsessed!
ReplyDeleteAdorable post! I learned so much about you.

Adorable post! I learned so much about you.

I really do love these If You Really Knew Me posts! They are so fun!
ReplyDeleteI must admit, although I'm not a mother and I'm not pregnant I have always secretly hoped for a daughter one day too! I mean, I would love both a boy and a girl, but I reeeeally want a girl! Lol! I think that it's natural for super girly-girl to want a baby girl. I think most guys probably would like a son. My husband says that he truly doesn't care, but I know him, and I know that he'd LOVE to have a son. Either way I know that when the time comes we'll both be happy whether boy or girl! :)
I enjoyed learning a little more about you Sarah! :)
We are very similar, Sarah! So funny -- I found myself nodding to almost all of these because I can completely relate. I almost passed out in high school health when watching a movie on giving birth...yikes! I also do not like to do my hair or wear makeup and only do if I am going out for something fancy.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this :)
looove that you did this!
ReplyDeletetotally made me cave and copy this cute post!

I wrote one of these posts just yesterday. http://www.erincomposes.com And I think we could be great friends because (1) I love avocados and eat them all the time, (2) I hate being alone at night, (3) I do not like to do my hair, (4) I am often moved to tears over the tiniest things, and (5) I ADORE the picture you posted here.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this! Avocado is DELICIOUS & I think that some people can be so heartless & thoughtless with their comments: fat/skinny, short/tall, etc. What happened to holding your tongue?!
ReplyDeleteI caved and did one of these the other day too!
http://veryloveleigh.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-you-really-knew-me.html
I did one today, too!

I love that these have been floating around the blogoshpere! Love yours!
ReplyDeleteHeres mine:

Oh and something you wouldn't know from reading my blog. I have seen my mom give birth to 3 out of 4 of my younger siblings. The first two were so traumatizing I decided I didn't want kids (but I got over that after a couple years) and the third time, I had to help by pushing her leg back and cutting the chord! It's not that bad... actually I just try not to think about it.
ReplyDelete@ashley allan. you should see my face right after reading that last bit! haha my eyes are as big as saucers.
ReplyDeletehttp://feelingbloggy-read.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-you-really-knew-me.html
ReplyDeleteI did it :) check it out :) loved yours! :) i think i have you beat for worlds ugliest crier though - my face gets blotchy red so bad that when i was younger my babysitter had to call my parents and almost called 911 because she thought something was seriously wrong with me. haha
Sweet Sarah - do not be remotely scared of giving birth to your wonderful boy!! Seriously. Email me if you want to talk. It is the most incredibly beautiful moment of your life. Leave the fear at the door darling - nothing but smiles that day! xxx
ReplyDeleteOver this past year I have been able to get to know you & we've become so close :) I love the person you are Sarah! <3
ReplyDeleteMan reading this post makes me realize I am way too similar to you, its creepy! The skinny thing, being close to my mom, not liking being home alone. Thanks for your transparency :)
ReplyDeletexo Shane
I luurrrrve your hair and would gladly swap any day :)
ReplyDeletei did one of these yesterday.
ReplyDeletethe whole birth thing is kind of freaking me out so i try not to think about it, but i don't know how much longer that is going to work for ;)
and i have had those skinny jokes. the amount of times i have had people ask if i have a problem with food and tell me how i can open up to them. i don't have a problem with food thank you just a very fast metabolism.
and you don't like your hair. i think it is so pretty :)
You'll be a fabulous mother (girl or boy) and I LOVE avocado too! So delicious and good for you!
ReplyDeleteSarah you inspire me so much. I love hearing your stories and can't wait for your beautiful baby boy to arrive and bless your life. I posted this because of you! Thanks for the push I needed.
ReplyDeletehttp://sheismoments.blogspot.com/
It's nice to get to know you a little bit more Sarah x
ReplyDeleteI love these and yours is no exception! It's so nice to get to know bloggers a little bit more in-depth than usual. There's a relatibility about it, as well as just finding out that what you think looks like "perfection" on someone's blog (whether intentional or not) isn't their entire personality/life. Definitely refreshing. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how intimidating it would be having a boy. I grew up with two sister and thought I was a tomboy, but it's a different thing raising one! However, I think you and your husband will do wonderfully based on all the amazing posts you write! You both seem so thoughtful and patient! http://justafewofemilysfavoritethings.blogspot.com/2012/07/if-you-really-knew-me.html
