Ana, the brazilian cutie of My Newly(wed) Life is here today to tell us all about
San Francisco!
Name: Ana FLocation: San Francisco Bay Area, CaliforniaHow long have you lived there?I've been living in the Bay for a little over two years.
If you moved from somewhere else, where did you move from? Why?
I am originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I was in my last year of college, planning a exchange program to study English in the US. I met Mr. F when I was still in Brazil. So I ended up moving to the Bay to be an exchange student and to be closer to him. My exchange program is over now and I'm happily married :)
How is the weather?
The weather can change drastically. It can't get really cold, rainy and windy in the winter and really dry and hot in the summer without a single breeze. Fall and spring are my favorite seasons: it's not too hot you don't want to go outside, but not so cold you don't want to do outdoor activities.
Tell us what a typical weekend is like for you there?
Going for a hike with my husband, barbecuing something, going to the beach and taking millions of pictures. If the weather is not nice, watching a good movie with a glass of wine. San Francisco festivals are always SO much fun! It is a great opportunity for people watching. It's a very unique city.
Where do you like to eat in your town?
There's so many great places to eat around here. We love Cafe Divine at Washington Square in San Francisco. The pizzas there are really awesome. We also love Pampas Grill. It's a Brazilian all-you-can-eat steakhouse. It's a little expensive, but so good! And you can eat SO much. The waiters walk around with big skewers of meat and you have a little card that's green on one side and red on the other. You flip them over and over if you want the waiter to come serve you or not. And you can also eat as much as you want from the buffet. Il Fornaio is a great Italian restaurant with locations all over the Bay. The desserts there are simply amazing! And Susie Cakes have the best cupcakes! And at the Top of the Mark (a restaurant at the top of Mark Hopkins hotel, you can see the whole city. It's really expensive, but definitely worth the view! We usually go there for drinks.
Where do you like to shop?Nowhere specific. If I see something that I like, I go there and buy it! I don't get attached to certain shops/stores.
Suggest some must see places for an out of town visitor.
Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Palace of Fine Arts. Have a picnic at Crissy Fields! The view of the Bridge from there at night is just gorgeous! Go see the whole city from the Coit Tower. You can have a 360 degrees view of the whole city. Also at Twin Peaks. But the weather has to be in good conditions for you to see anything.
Tell us why you love your town:
The Bay Area is a very unique place to be. San Francisco has this bohemian vibe that I love. It's an open-minded city. In the Bay, you can go at a nature hike and then go to a big city at the end of the day. I love how you can have different experiences on the same day. Everybody around here is so nice and you can meet people from everywhere in the world and taste any kind of cuisine you want. In the spring, the city is full of flowers everywhere and in the fall, the leaves become so red! It's just beautiful.
Anything else we should know about where you live?
It's gorgeous and there's so much to see and do! If you have more than a weekend, you can go see the ocean in Half Moon Bay and/or Santa Cruz. You can go wine tasting in Livermore. Then go on a nature hike in Berkeley or San Mateo. Then see the famous spots in San Francisco, visit Sausalito and finally end up in Napa Valley, for wine/champagne tasting.
....
